What Do I Need to Know if I Am Pregnant in High School?

High school comes with enough pressure on its own. Add a positive pregnancy test, and everything feels like it just got a lot more complicated. If you are a high school student who thinks she might be pregnant, here is what you need to know right now: you have options, rights, and access to help.

Choices Options for Women is here to walk you through it. Our services are completely free and confidential. We do not share your information with parents, schools, or anyone else, so you can come in and get the answers you need without worrying about who finds out.

Pregnancy Testing and Confirmation

If you have taken a home test, that is a starting point. But confirming your pregnancy at a center and knowing how far along you are gives you the information you need to weigh your options fully and confidently. At Choices Options for Women, pregnancy testing is free—no insurance required.

For clients who test positive, we can also provide an ultrasound to confirm the viability of the pregnancy and determine gestational age. A Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer performs all ultrasounds at 7-8 weeks.

Title IX: Your Right to Stay in School

Being pregnant does not mean you have to leave school. Title IX is a federal law that protects pregnant students from discrimination in any school that receives federal funding, including virtually every public high school in the country.

Under Title IX, your school cannot force you out of classes or activities, penalize you for pregnancy-related absences, or single you out for different treatment. You also have the right to request accommodations to help you stay on track academically. If a teacher, coach, or administrator is pressuring you, there are steps you can take, and we can help connect you with the right information.

You Have Three Options

Parenting, adoption, and abortion are your three pregnancy options. At Choices Options for Women, we will walk through each option with you honestly and help you think through what each one may look like given your specific situation, without pressure or judgment.

During your visit, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, learn what each option genuinely involves, and walk away with accurate information to guide your next steps.

No matter where you are in your thinking, having a real conversation with someone knowledgeable and genuinely invested in your well-being is always a good place to start.

You Do Not Have to Tell Anyone Before You Are Ready

No rule says you have to tell your parents, your partner, or your friends the moment you find out. Taking time to process this on your own terms is completely okay. What is important is that you have somewhere safe to ask questions and think things through.

Our center is that place. Everything shared during your visit stays private. You can come alone or bring someone you trust, whoever makes you feel most at ease walking through the door.

What Happens When You Come In

When you arrive, you will meet with a caring staff member who will listen, answer your questions, and help you think through your next steps. There is no pressure to make any decision on the spot.
